That will allow you to drain about four quarts, of the 10 or so, out of the transmission. If you do that every time you change your engine oil, your transmission fluid will always be in pristine condition. Do it every second oil change and you will still be in good shape. Then replace the filter every 30,000 or 60,000 miles.
Step 3 – Change the transmission fluid filter. Keep your drainage container underneath the filter as some fluid may continue to drip out. Hold on to the open end of the fuel filter, then wiggle it up and down until it pops off. Before installing the new filter, place a new O-ring seal around the top of the filter.Honda recommends the transmission fluid be changed every 37,500 miles under "severe" conditions and every 120,000 under "normal" conditions. In my 30+ years of working on vehicles and maintaining my own vehicles, I recommend a more in the middle schedule. Every 4 years or 50,000 miles always worked for me no matter the vehicle.
Step 2 – Locate and remove the filler bolt. Once you have drained the fluid from your transmission and replaced the drain bolt, it is time to refill your transmission. Locate the fill bolt on your transmission and remove it using the 17mm bolt. You will need an extension to reach the bolt. Figure 2.
